Feel-good fashion!!! What brings you joy?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been dipping into my wardrobe, wearing a concise, capsule wardrobe for all my cold rainy-day needs.  Here’s hoping spring/summer will hurry up so we can get on with the business of stashing away our big coats, boots, and woollens, and welcoming our summer linens, pashminas, and espadrilles…. I was going into a dream-like state, there……..

…..Back to reality.

For the last week, and unfortunately the week ahead, it’s not going to improve.  This is what I have been wearing to keep the spring chill out.

Outfit One

This retro style blue printed dress in today’s post has a vintage vibe of the fifties to it. I bought this dress online at the end of August 2019.  I picked it up in the sale for £19.99, reduced from £35.99 It’s a great transitional piece, so easy to wear, and it doesn’t require (too) much thought in styling it.

The great thing about a midi dress is that it’s a perennial item. This one can be worn under a chunky knit, tights and boots in the colder months, or strappy sandals in the cooler months – a perfect new addition – the vivid colour and print is a winner for me.

Whatever the weather I love to wear items that give me that sense of “feel-good” fashion.  Strange, isn’t it, how wearing a favourite item, be it a dress, jacket, or accessory, can lift the spirits giving us the power to feel better in ourselves.  Now is our chance to dip into our wardrobes or buy a new addition to lift those spirits. After enduring the last year, we deserve it!  I have styled this dress with a fine knit blue cardigan (Mint Velvet), navy blue tights and blue suede boots (both old favourites from Marks and Spencer).

Outfit Two

My next go-to look began with my “stay warm” cosy cashmere jumper (Marks and Spencer) which I have had for years. I have collected a few over the years. They get pulled from the back of my wardrobe when I’m needing some warmth, whatever time of year it is…. I did a post a while ago on buying pre-loved cashmere. Click here, if you would like to have a read.

I have styled this jumper with a vibrant red print skirt (Mint Velvet) – again, an old favourite. I thought a splash of colour was needed and it lifted the mood.

I finished off my outfit with these great “stomper” boots from Next.  I had looked for a pair of boots like these, for ages, wanting the cool look of the chunky boot with a slightly higher block heel – which would give me a little more height – I always feel a little bit dumpy in flats.  These boots have been a comfortable fashion purchase, which was well worth the outlay.

Outfit three

My last outfit is, leather trousers, a plain tee, and a trench coat, with an animal print scarf to complete the look.  We can never really say leather trousers are having a comeback because realistically they never went away. I bought these, last year, in the Mint Velvet sale. They were an investment piece.

I tried a lot of styles before I settled on this straight-leg pair which sit nicely on the ankle – a style I find to be flattering…. Click here to read more about these in an old post. Re my coat, it is officially spring – by the date, anyway – which means it is time to wear a trench coat.

At this time of year, the trusted trench remains the chicest way to keep the cold weather away.  Of course, a trench coat never really goes out of style. The latest trends can influence their shape, silhouette, and fabric. But, the style remains one of the chicest ways to keep the cold weather away.   I have finished off the look with an animal print scarf.

Great post Alison and words of wisdom about wearing pieces you love…its hard though as sometimes you ‘go off’ pieces ! fortunately the charity shop and husbands ebay account ( thank you Mr B !) have took away some of my excesses !! There is still some work to be done on sorting through my clothes, I get too attached to pieces and really need to tune into the ‘do I love this’ vibe. Its a bleak day up here today, having a faffing about day ….now that’s something I can do very well !!! Hope you have a nice weekend, love Karen xx

    • Thank you so much Karen. When this awful weather decides to go, hopefully, making way for
a warmer few months, I’m determined to have a good sort out of my clothes. I tend to hang onto
items too as I’ve made mistakes in the past, parting with things I really should have kept.
      Have a lovely weekend. x

I love the leather trouser outfit and the red skirt outfit! They look chic yet comfy.

    • Thank you so much. They are perfect at the moment as our good old British weather isn’t
behaving. Enjoy the rest of your week.

I definitely feel a real mood boost when I wear “real” clothes that make me feel good. Of course there are other days when I just want to have my comfy sweats on instead but I try not to indulge in that very often.

    • I am exactly the same – and now that we are able to go out a little more I’m realising how
good a certain item or outfit can make me feel better. There’s always a time for the comfy, cosies.

    • Thank you so much! It’s such a versatile dress, which I’m looking forward to wearing when the weather decides to warm up. Enjoy the rest of your week.x

    • Me too. We are still waiting for the weather to decide if it’s
      Springtime🥶

  5. These are all such great looks for the cool early spring! It is still very chilly here as well so I have been needing jumpers and layers every day. I love all three outfits. The blue floral dress is so pretty. I love the print and the bold shade of cobalt. And the red skirt is just too cute for words! Your all black look with the leather trousers is sassy and cool and right up my alley! Wonderful styling to feel joyful! Our clothes absolutely should make us happy. Thanks for linking.

    • Thank you so much, Shelbee. There is still no sign of our UK weather warming up, so I may be in my layers for
a tad longer than expected. x

  6. Nice looks I think I have the same faux leather jeans. They always look good don’t they. Jacqui x

    • I bought these last year after trying a lot of styles – they are a great style aren’t they and a great investment piece. Enjoy
the rest of your week. xx

Just found your blog and enjoying it. I all the outfits but was wondering where the blue dress was from – couldn’t see it in the text but may have missed it.

    • Thank you, Ann. I bought this dress Sept 2020 from The Mango Outlet. It was reduced from £49.00 to £19.99, so, was a great bargain. Not sure if you were aware Mango have a separate site for their outlet – it’s always worth a browse. The only down side to the customer is paying for the return, not sure if this is still the case. On this post I have found some similar dresses in the adverts(affiliate links). I saw this dress the other day, which you may like:

away just yet. I’ve heard it may warm up at the weekend. Fingers
