The Christmas season is upon us! But, first, what interests you when you’re flicking through blogs, Instagram, Pinterest, etc..…..? Recently, I was scrolling through YouTube, and after watching the classic movie clip from The Godfather: Part 2, “My Offer is Nothing,” I came across a light-hearted video of Alexa Chung collaborating with Mango.
Alexa said, “You, know best, so trust your instincts”. I agree, we all have a basic idea of our style, whatever that is. What we wear is a true reflection of who we are. It’s an opportunity to represent our personalities. How boring would it be if we all dressed, similarly? And, does it matter if we are dressing in a way which may not suit everyone’s ideal? As Alexa says in the video, “it doesn’t matter”.
I enjoy the challenge of putting an outfit together. Sometimes, it works, sometimes not. But, it’s fun, experimenting. My appreciation and love of clothes goes on. I love the joy of something I’ve chosen to wear working perfectly for me – making me feel good and lifting my mood. I also enjoy seeing how others put an outfit together, using their flair and individuality. It’s not all about buying new stuff but spending time figuring out what works. The key component is feeling relaxed and comfortable as well as chic, of course.
So, what to wear, now, in a laid-back, not trying too hard way…..? I use this time of year as an opportunity to be more adventurous and maybe a little daring, especially blending different fabrics and textures.
We are not the types to attend super posh do’s at Christmas, just a few get-togethers with close friends and family. We do have two planned music shows, organised by my other half, Pat. If you are a regular, here, you will know Pat is a musician. He arranges a regular gig in the summer months and one at Christmas. But, this year, the Christmas gig sold out, immediately. So, he has added another date. So, we have two, this year. They are at the Peacock in Sunderland (upstairs auditorium). This is an event where people of all ages can go, to listen to good music and let their hair down. Alongside his band, “Blue Diamond” he has other musicians guesting. The shows have become quite a thing. We are now in our fourth year – not only is it a great night but it’s a chance to see friends from long ago and meet new ones. So, it’s become a sort of reunion opportunity, which makes it extra special.
Outfit One
Merry Christmas, Alison! We had all the kids and grands over so a bit of a full house, but that’s really only 10. It was a good day, but I do miss getting together with my brother and sister. It’s a far trek so we haven’t done it for several years now.
I love your sequined outfits. I finally broke down and bought a sequin skirt. It’s a classic black maxi so it will be in my closet for years. I knew sequins were bad for the environment, but I didn’t know why. Thanks for the info.
I hope your husband’s shows go wonderfully…they sound like a fun time for everyone! We will be at home as my husband still struggles with walking. Hopefully, next Christmas will be a different story.

Thank you, Marsha. I hope you have had a lovely Christmas and new with your family. Unfortunately, I’ve had the flu, which resulted in a chest infection – hence, I haven’t been out at all. What a pain it is to be poorly, on the mend now thank goodness. xx
