What To Wear, Right Now – This And That!

Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and BeautyBlue floral dress, (Mango, past season) with navy blue opaque tights (unfortunately it was cold enough), and blue suede  boots (both M & S).

What to wear, right now?  This is the time of year when the weather dictates.  Alas, here in the UK we have gone from winter to summer in three days and now the forecast is lots of rain and a drop in temperatures!  I hoped to pack away my thermal leggings, but maybe, not yet.

Hence, for the last month or so, I have been mixing my wardrobe up, trying to introduce some new styles to make me feel good, hopefully, and add some oomph to my current stock.  Here are a few ideas for you – a mixture of the old and the new.  Like most, a lot of thought goes into my purchases, these days.   So, if something is on my wish list, it has to work well for me.

This is my very old leather jacket (Next) with a Breton and wide leg pants….Oh not forgetting my cap – I already have this in Camouflage and have worn it a lot, so requested this one for Christmas.

You can always rely on a trench coat. This one is from Zara purchased around five years ago, there are lots of similar styles on the high street. I quite  like the linen version for the warmer weather.

I am trying a new look in today’s post, one which has been around for a while, and that I have admired on others….wondering if this style would suit me.   This is the wide-leg trouser and matching waistcoat, hence, following a lot of “trying on” to find the right style for me (there are lots of variations on offer), I finally came across this co-ord (River Island).

Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and Beauty When I spotted this twosome, I thought the colour was beige under the shop lighting until I noticed the colour (sage green) on the label, which, coincidentally, is one of my favourite colours.

I have tried a fair few of these combinations, beginning my search, last year. However, I had a problem with the wide-leg pants styling, especially.  I couldn’t find the right pair to suit my shape.

Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and Beauty They were either too wide on the leg, not quite right around my waist, hips and bottom area, or, they simply didn’t suit me. Then, a few weeks ago, I saw this pair, purely by accident. They have an elasticated panel in the back of the waistband for extra comfort, they sit high on the waist, with a wide leg, which isn’t too loose fitting.

Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and Beauty Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and Beauty Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and BeautySitting alongside was a matching waistcoat, which had to be tried on with the trousers, rude not to.  I find that this style of trouser works well with a less voluminous top. A fitted tee or tailored jacket are good. And, a half-tucked-in buttoned-up shirt works well, too.

The style of this waistcoat ticks all of the boxes. I love the longer length of the waistcoat with this style of trousers – making it more streamlined.  I have enjoyed wearing this waistcoat with my jeans and slip skirts – it is such a versatile addition which I will wear a lot.

Midlife and Beyond Life, Style and Beauty There is such an androgynous “cool” to this style – very “Annie Hall.”  Waistcoats are a perfect trans-seasonal choice. I shall enjoy wearing mine throughout the seasons.  This style looks perfect with a simple tee shirt. I’ve also gone for the bare-armed look, which I know can be tricky for many women. I’ve had sagginess around my upper arm area since my late thirties, and I used to be self-conscious about it when I was younger – not so much now.  Age has brought me acceptance and appreciation of my good and bad, not caring so much about the saggy bits.  A healthy mind and body are far more important. As you can see, there are so many ways to style both items (both the trousers and waistcoat are a size 12).

Following on with a few more random outfits, I have been wearing, lately……

The weather has warmed up, slightly, since I started this post. So, you may want to give the opaque tights a miss.

I still haven’t unpacked my high summer clothes, yet, but I have purchased a few early summer pairs of linen pants.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your kindness and messages in my last post. Many of you have been through animal loss, yourselves, so “thank you” for sharing your experiences with me. It helped, and time, really, is a great healer.

  4. I think you look fabulous in this waistcoat and trouser combination. I have avoided the waistcoat trend as I’m so short waisted. I love the way it looks on others, but I’m just too short! The color is beautiful, too!

    • Thank you, Suzy. I’m quite late to the wide leg style, one which I now love, though I tried quite a few styles on before finding the right ones for me.
