Spring Outfit Ideas, Plus, A Great Dupe To Keep The Chill Out.

🎵“I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want”.🎵 I’m currently reading Melanie Chisholm’s autobiography (Mel C of the Spice Girls fame) and, that song (you may know the one), is continually in my head. It’s such a great read if you are looking for a good autobiography – so honest and, like me, you don’t need to be a fan of theirs.  Back then, I liked their positivity, strength and energy.  I remember taking my boys to see their film, so, lots of memories were flooding back reading this book.

Coming to today’s post.  As much as I want to step into lighter attire, the cold weather is dictating, otherwise. It’s currently more baltic, and the long grey days have made me dig deep into the echelons of my wardrobe for items which will give me a “spring”  in my step – while managing to keep me dry and warm.  So, with that in mind, I have put together some transitional spring outfits you may find useful if you are looking for ideas.

They are outfits I have been wearing over the last couple of weeks.  There are a few new additions I have picked up over the last year, or so – some are still current so I’ll add a few links for you.   As you can see from the outfits, I’m quite a low-key dresser. My style is quiet, not shouty – which is my personality, too. But, I still want to portray that I have something interesting to say, style-wise.

Striped wool-blend turtleneck sweater – TOTEME £420.00 or the cheaper version from H&M for £37.99

As much as I’m curious to see what the current style trends are, I don’t tend to participate unless I know that the look will fit with my relaxed style.  I invest in items that I enjoy wearing, clothing that will tick all the boxes, comfort being key….especially items I’ll be able to wear across the seasons. “Buy less, wear more” is my motto.  Plus, I love saving a few pennies, so I generally wait for reductions of some kind.

Following on from the dupe theme in my last post, I’ll begin by showing you my oversized striped top which is a copy of a jumper from Toteme £420.  This one from H & M is a much cheaper £37.99! What a price difference.

Style Ideas – The Black and cream Striped – different Colour Versions

I already have this top in black and cream (above), which I have worn so many times since purchasing it over a year ago. S0, when I saw the black and white version, recently, I bought it as I knew it would work just as hard in my wardrobe. This is a great “throw-on and go” item and can be worn with most things, jeans, maxi skirts and long shorts (I prefer them long and baggy) going into the summer months.  I also managed to get the H&M member discount of 15%. This top is so light to wear as well as being non-itchy (not wool) which is a great bonus – especially at this time of year when there is the risk of overheating. I also love how the top stripe is black, hence no risk of any makeup marks.

Style Ideas – Black Skinny Jeans and a Trench Coat

Onto the next few outfits, one item which is a firm favourite of mine is the classic striped cardigan.  I’m wearing mine, here, with my bomber jacket, which is the perfect all-rounder.  I love the relaxed style of the bomber which fits nicely with my inner tomboy self, it’s such a good throw-on piece. It’s perfect with maxi/midi skirts, dresses and jeans for an effortless look. This old cream slip skirt works well with it.  This bomber jacket was bought from Marks and Spencer’s (last year), which, they have in stock, once more.

The Midi dress is from Warehouse, bought back in the good old days when we could physically go and have a good old try-on until our heart’s content.  Sadly, a lot of stores are now missing from the high street. Change is not always for the good.  Do you miss having access to your favourite stores?  I certainly do.

Style Ideas – Bomber Jacket, Striped Cardigan and Satin Skirt

Onto white jeans – which I only started to wear a few years ago – why did I wait so long?  I have a cropped pair, too, but I prefer this slightly wide-leg, slouchy style, more.  I picked these up in the sale, last year, (Mint Velvet).  I am a size 12/regular leg.  There are lots of this style, currently, on the high street.

Striped top, worn with high waist, wide leg, white trousers and my Reefer or……. Pea jacket as some call it – perfect for this time of year

Style Ideas – Pea Coat, White jeans and a striped Tee

Seeing Red!

I’m seeing pops of red everywhere on the high street and as I have become a little more adventurous and bolder, colour-wise, I am enjoying this mood-boosting trend.  Red used to be mostly associated with Christmas or Valentine’s Day. But, like sequins, we are now wearing colours, fabrics and styles outside their allotted time zone. Something, I’m very happy about.

Casual Attire

In recent years, jogging pants have slipped into most wardrobes, certainly mine. This sporty and relaxed formal wear is one of our most reached for “day-to-day”. Joggers can be dressed up or down and you can get as creative as you want. Here are a few examples of how I wear mine, in a relaxed way with a sweatshirt, or with a statement jacket. Anything goes!!

Trench

I’m ending with the seasonable and oh-so-reliable, trusty trench coat. always my go-to when in doubt about what to throw on, especially, when stylish layers are needed.  I bought this classic style from Zara, a long time ago.  It’s one of those items that always makes me feel good – there are many variations of the trench available this season.  I particularly like the linen blend one from Marks and Spencer’s current range – it’s featured in their latest advert in case you have missed it.

  1. I do love wearing my stripes but I hear you and want to wear lighter more summery outfits. I’ve seen lots of ladies wearing white jeans but they’re just not suitable for me atm. I have relented and put on a leopard print slip skirt but quite honesty I’m freezing! Have a super Friday and don’t forget to join the Chicandstylish linkup. Jacqui x

    • I’m forward to the warmer weather so much. It’s not quite the time for linen yet, hopefully just around the corner.xx

    • Such a versatile top, I find it goes with most of my day to day. Enjoy your weekend.x

  2. You created so many looks with your wardrobe staples. It was hard to pick my favorite ones.
