Northern winds have blown Autumn into these parts, resulting in a winter coat update and a trial run of our central heating system. Luckily, there is no need to call in the heating engineer to give it an overhaul which, as you know, can be a huge expense.
Lately, I have also purchased some vitamin D which the NHS recommends between October and March. This is due to the low-light sun we experience during these months. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining healthy bones, teeth and muscles. A deficiency can lead to conditions such as bone pain and muscle weakness. I will be taking a daily 10-microgram dose.
I have also been getting “cold-weather ready” with a few well-chosen items. They are from an Irish brand called, Lighthouse Clothing. I was under no obligation to do a blog post. But, I really liked their brand ethos, and they were lovely to interact with – which makes all the difference. So, if you are looking for some Autumn/Winter updates, like I was, you may find this useful.
I’ll begin with the………..
Outback Full Length Waterproof Raincoat – In The Colour, Fern.
Apart from my walking coat – which is rather grubby due to being out in all weathers – I haven’t owned a stylish, full-length raincoat for a long while.
In the brand’s write-up, they say they design for rain, wind and patchy weather. And, they are inspired by their love of the famous Irish rugged coastline which I have witnessed myself and is a beautiful place to visit.
From the items I have received, this is the one I have worn the most. I wore it to the pub on Saturday evening and I was delighted when two people remarked on how much they liked it. Another, as we were leaving, asked if I had lost weight – some people are very forthright!!!!
The design is very stylish and… slimming. I will wear this “go anywhere”, lightweight coat, throughout the year. There is a high spec regarding the design and quality of fabric, here. I checked on a more expensive outerwear brand and there is an almost identical one at double the price. In the photographs, I am wearing my old favourite straight leg jeans (H&M), a simple white tee and my comfy, old, dark brown leather lace-up boots (Next). I have finished the look with the “Lighthouse Clothing” lovely, soft wool bobble hat in the colour, Irish cream.
The Cobh Fleece in the Colour Irish Cream
The traditional fleece has become super trendy with the fashion set. I have searched, recently, for one that will provide the right amount of warmth without the frump. And, this one ticks all of the boxes for me.
This is a straight, zip-up style which I prefer – I like to layer with a T-shirt, underneath. While searching, I realised the perception of a fleece has changed. No longer used solely for outdoor activities such as walking the dog, hiking or putting the rubbish out. The cool set love this style and are wearing it in a whole new way. I love the long body style and I can vouch for it being super cosy.
Full Length Padded Coat in the Colour Cocoa.
This duvet coat will come into its own when the temperatures drop in the coming months. Again, I am late to the party with this style of coat. I have a short version but this longer length is a big improvement for all sorts of reasons. Storage-wise, it fills our small coat cupboard.
Luckily, we have some coat hooks in the utility where it is safely stored. So, it can be accessed, quickly, for outings of any sort. I have worn it a few times and it is very comforting, super-warm and cosy. I really do feel like I am wrapped in a duvet. It is still 15 degrees outdoors so it’s a little early in the season to feel the full benefit.
That won’t be for long, of course, the temperatures will drop, eventually. And, there is always that threat of the “Beast from the East” hitting northern shores. So, if you have the storage space, this coat is a winner. I love the colour, too, in this season’s cocoa brown.

I am looking forward to a cold winter and maybe some snow this year (we don’t get much and not every year) as I have quite the collection of coats and jackets! Love these and you wear them well. http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
