Spring Refresh…. How I Am Styling My Trench

The trench I am showing you in today’s post is one of my favourite styles. I bought my “car coat/mac/trench” from Marks and Spencer, a few months ago.

I’d been inspired by one I have already owned for several years which is now a little dog-eared due to constant wear. I bought it in a “House of Fraser” sale but I am still reluctant to send it off to the recycle bin – do you become attached to items like this, which have served you well?

I was pleased when I saw this “very similar” version and at such a great price! Unfortunately, at the time, M&S did not have my size and it was continuously out of stock (usually the case when I see something I love). But, it eventually came back into stock. As you can see in the pics, this is such a versatile coat, and great for layering. I settled on a size 12. This was due to the reviews advising to size down, which was true and correct, for me. I am usually a size 14 but preferred the size twelve – there’s still room for a jumper, underneath. It is good quality and it will be perfect all year round. The fabric is showerproof, too, which is perfect for our wet and windy part of the world.

Trench coats are the perfect lightweight outerwear option, especially “between seasons.”  They are certainly a stylish staple while offering great protection. There is that old saying, “Ne’er cast a clout till May is out,” So true, as this is the time of year when we can still be caught out by a cold spell, which we are currently experiencing.

Not only is the trench an excellent choice for spring, but ideal for the transitional months throughout the year. Their versatility means you can wear them over almost anything from chunky knitwear to pretty spring dresses. Plus, they work with a range of footwear from boots and loafers to trainers and sandals.

The coat I am wearing in today’s post is also available in Navy. The material is cotton and it has an easy to wear button-through style with a relaxed feel and neat collar. Plus, there are practical side pockets as well as an internal pocket. It is made from water-repellent Stormwear to keep me dry from April showers. The cotton is also sustainably sourced. In today’s post, I’m showing you how I have styled mine.

Great little coat, very similar to one I bought last year from JLP after seeing it on a couple of people I follow on insta ! I agree they are so useful to have in your wardrobe. I used to own a traditional style trench when I had an office job, but it never looked right dressed down and when it didn’t fit any more I sold it on !! Sometimes I even pop a hoodie or padded gilet under mine. Hope you have a lovely weekend x

    • It is such a versatile item, hence, I needed to replace my shabby trench, which I’d worn to death. They are great for layering all the year around. Have a great weekend too Karen. xxx

  2. That coat is timeless! I’m glad you were finally able to get it in your size. It will definitely get put to use and is sure to go with everything!

    • I’ve already worn it quite a lot – such a great layer at this time of year.xx

  3. I do have an old trench…it may be Tommy Hilfiger…and I’ve worn it so long and so much, the inside pockets have all but disintegrated. It’s black and white polka dotted…the black is that nice faded color now! I get so many compliments when I wear it even though the lapels are too wide (or are they now)! Love this trench on you…just as you’ve said…it’s timeless and will work with everything!

    • I love the sound of your trench. Sometimes our old favourites are better than the new addition. I have parted with a few items in the past which I now regret. Have a great week.xx

  4. I love this coat, it’s timeless and will be a great addition for years. Jacqui x
