Midi Dress – “Chuck On” Staple. And, Easing Out Of Lockdown.

As we all adjust to our new normal, things seem to have slowed to a calmer pace. There has not been the sudden rush to pile into pubs and restaurants, instead a period of readjustment has kicked in.

One of the reasons may be that we have entered the summer months. Time will tell if this is the only reason. It does seem that most people are still hesitant to venture out, some, I know still need to self-isolate for health reasons.

There is still every reason to be careful, plus, when we hear what is happening in our country and round the world, there is every reason to be cautious.

Now that pubs have re-opened, a friend is unable to return to his local and his beloved pint of Guinness as he simply can’t take the risk of getting the infection. The impact on his livelihood makes it impossible. If he can’t work, there’s no income. I think this goes for a lot of people. On the other hand, my other half is a musician and I can’t see the restrictions being lifted on live music (playing music inside) for a good while. But, as I’m writing this, he is receiving requests to go and do gigs with his band, outdoors. Hopefully, the weather will not misbehave. I do think a lot of people who enjoy watching live music have really missed it.

For the first time, yesterday, we ventured out to our local pub. The owner is a friend of ours and though we were dipping our toe into this new experience, we were also showing our support for her as she is very worried her business won’t survive this.

It was different – fewer staff you have to pre-book table – it’s quiet, with no drunken dancing….

Talking to a few regulars (in a socially distanced way, of course), we all agreed that the threat of the virus is there in everyone’s minds. Therefore, no one was loitering at the pub for long before retreating to their own homes.

On the occasions we are venturing out – whether it’s work, shopping or anything else – we are looking for timeless, wearable clothes that can adapt to more relaxed settings – clothes that are reliable and have staying power to last – i.e. something to throw on and feel good in – an item to call upon.

Apart from work out gear for my daily strut/trot, I haven’t bought anything, since April (I’ve picked out a few of the items I have bought  (see above).  The cap has to be my favourite.  Great protection from the sun and so cool!  I got my inspiration from my oldest son who has one the same one – he didn’t mind that I copied.

I bought this midi dress from Warehouse in March before it finally closed its doors forever.  This is a “Wafty”, billowing, flattering dress. The style itself is uncomplicated and easy to style and co-ordinate, by adding a pair of strappy sandals, changing to boots in the cooler weather and a great handbag.  Then completing the look, with a quick swipe of the richest red lipstick. T

The midi’s demure length is perfect for when the weather is a little changeable (like it is now) and to dress up with light layers, or down with a great pair of sneakers

This is a pull on and go dress. The midi hemline is my favourite and still super popular – perhaps it’s the fact that there is a midi dress to flatter everybody’s shape. They are often seasonless, and many styles work well all year-round. It will be a great transitional piece for the colder months.

    • Thank you Mireille. I’m not sure if that will happen just yet the rules seem to be changing daily. He and his fellow musicians are missing playing so much. xx

  1. I totally understand your concerns about the virus. For a couple of months it looked like we got under control but now with the restrictions being lifted, we are having a second wave and it’s spreading even faster then before. On the happier note, there is such a pretty dress, it has its style and comfort and is very wearable all year round. Suites you nicely too

    • Thank you Anna. Looks like we may be heading for a second wave too. This may be with us all for a good while unfortunately. Take care. xx

  2. That is such a darling dress, it looks so cute with your strappy sandals. Hopefully, things will be successful with opening up and your husband will get to do his gigs.

    • Thank you Kimberly. It’s a dress I’ll wear a lot in the future that’s for sure. Have a lovely weekend. xx

  3. Alison, I love this dress! This is totally my summer jam right now with regards to my wardrobe. Easy, comfortable, pretty dresses. I am glad that you were able to get out and support your friend’s restaurant. I hope things return to normal soon so these small business have some hope of rebuilding. And I am most definitely missing live music this summer! Thanks so much for sharing and linking up.

    • So true, that we’re missing live entertainment and doing the normal things we enjoy. Summer dresses are so easy to throw on – enjoy your weekend. xx

Yes. Very sad about Warehouse. I also liked the brand. There will be many more I think. The dress is gorgeous on Alison and I know what you mean about buying items to be comfortable in the home. I’ve been doing that too xx

    • I agree – it’s so sad that we are losing our favourite brands. Ones, where we looked forward to their new seasons, coming out. The high street is going to look so different.

  5. I’m glad to hear that people are being careful near you. Our state is still pretty strict on guidelines which I am grateful for. Other states have seen such a rise in cases after opening up. It’s a shame to see people not take it seriously. I love your pretty dress and the edgy vibe of your jacket!

    • Thank you so much, Laura. We are seeing this too. A few areas have entered back into lockdown. I think because we haven’t experienced anything like this we are learning on the go. xx

  6. I like this wafty dress – it’s perfect for summer. Thanks for sharing on the #linkup Jacqui x

    • Thank you so much Jacqui. It will be great to wear in the months ahead too, which is great.xx

  7. This dress is so pretty on you and I love how it flows! I like the leather jacket with it for a little edge. My state’s cases are up and especially in my city, so I am pretty sure my kids will be going back to school virtually (at home!).

    • Thank you so much Carrie. Everything is changing daily isn’t it. Here in England the children are returning to school and college in a few weeks. I watched a news item where the government are determined to stick to this as children aren’t doing great not having a routine, and falling behind in their studies. My hubby teaches music to over 12’s a few days a week at a nearby college and he’s getting his timetable soon, hopefully, all will go smoothly. Hope it all works out for you and your kids – it is a numbers game at the moment. Have a great weekend! xx

  8. It’s a beautiful dress and one that can work for every season. I adore midi length dresses too! I can wear one without fear of showing strangers any of my junk when chasing after my son! Our pubs are closed down too and a few places are offering outdoor seating. It’s definitely weird but better than nothing!

    • Thank you Maureen. I agree this dress is very flattering as it hides my lumps and bumps – my kinda dress! It’ll take me well into autumn/winter too, so I’m getting my moneys worth. Our pubs are now open, but with all the rules it’s just not the same – will things ever be the same again? Hopefully! Have a fab weekend and thank you for stopping by. xx

  9. HI Alison
I have bought a few more midi and maxi dresses this year. Love the print of this one and it is so feminine and pretty on you! Looks great wit the sandals are red lip
I wish there was more caution taken by people here, but in our state, things are improving. I am glad you got to go out a bit to a pub, but understand the caution. I t is so hard with people losing business and jobs and wondering how they will manage.

    • The midi length is my favourite – and this style hides a multitude of sins! – I find it so flattering. There’s some lovely ones in the sale I’m tempted by. Thank you for switching me onto the Mango outlet. There’s some dresses from last season which are such a bargain on there. Have a great weekend – hope its cooled down where you are. The weather here is awful, lots of rain and a strong wind at the moment – good old British weather! xx

    • Thank you so much Ada, that’s very kind of you. My hubby may be able to play in September – but only in places where it’s large enough for people to social distance. All of this “our new normal” is so strange isn’t it. Have a lovely weekend.xx

  10. I love the pattern and flowing style of your dress – it looks great with the leather jacket and wedge sandals. I’ve only been to the pub once, to mark the end of the school year. Luckily we have a pub not too far away with a big beer garden, outdoor play area and a field so the kids could run around. They’ve missed out on the year six leavers’ party so we wanted to do something to celebrate the milestone. I’m in no rush to go back though, as nice as it was. Thanks for linking up!

    • Thank you Emma. It is a very versatile dress which I’ll wear a lot. I agree, pubs just don’t feel the same and with months of lockdown our habits have changed – I think a lot of people feel the same way and we have such a long way to go with this. Hopefully things will start to improve. xx

  11. It’s a beautiful dress. I love how it flows with you and the color is gorgeous. We don’t venture out much. It’s hard with a little one and that’s just it, we have a little guy. So, we only do take outs if that. There’s so much heaviness in the world right now and we are just taking it one day at a time.

    Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com

    • Thank you so much Maureen. I agree with you our habits have changed during lockdown. We have taken advantage of the government “Eat out to help out” scheme a few times. I did enjoy having food prepared and put down to me and especially enjoyed no washing up. We came straight home when the food was over which isn’t us usually. Everything is going to be so different and is changing daily, it’s hard to keep up. xx

  12. I am a bit jealous that you can wear long sleeves already. Here in Texas, “summer” extends to late October. My long sleeves will have to wait a bit longer, sadly. I love the print of your dress. And I love the midi length and how flowy it is! So comfortable and easy to layer with a jacket for colder days.
