It Feels Like Summer!

Dress bought in the H&M sale, last year. Espadrilles by Monsoon (old)

For most of us, there hasn’t been the need to get dressed, normally, in the last ten weeks.

Of course, everyone’s situation is different. I know that some people working from home, my son included, have felt better getting dressed to help create that feeling of going to work.

My work is on hold. With this new routine, I have only, occasionally, been tempted to apply makeup and put on a favourite dress – mainly to remind myself what it is like to do so.

With the glorious weather we have been experiencing, lately, I thought I would start to share with you some of the seasonal items I have worn, this week. Looking ahead, there are some old favourites from the back of my wardrobe and a few new additions (bought in the sale). I hope to start wearing these, again, soon – and, I will share with you.

The new items were acquired, last year, and the beginning of this year. I’m not the most frugal person you will ever know, but I do love a bargain and rarely pay full price.

One good thing to come out of this situation is, around six weeks ago, I started to do an hour’s daily walk/trot, nearby. Having a house full, I enjoyed putting my ipod on, buds in my ears and getting out the door.

It was a good way to have some “me time” which I started to look forward to! Hence, a good pair of sturdy trainers and some “not sexy” workout clothing has been my “go to”.

How beautiful is this family of Swans!

If you like to browse Instagram, you may have noticed a lot of my pics are of “nature” – particularly, a swan family that I have been passing by in our local country park. For weeks, I have watched mum on the nest. And, now, the cygnets have arrived. I feel like their great aunt trotting past, every day.

Cygnets.

I love to stop and watch them for a few minutes. The great thing about this is, of course, is it gets me outside into the fresh air while getting lots of vitamin D. I don’t think I’ve been outside so much, for a long time. So, this is a great routine, keeping me healthy. I intend to keep it going and have learned from this habit I’ve developed.

This is a quote I read recently:

“Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones”.  University of Minnesota

Getting back to our “new normal”, the government has announced that our favourite fashion stores will be flinging their doors open, once again, in a socially distanced way. For me, shopping has always been a pleasurable experience, in respect of having a good browse. I’m really lucky because my other half also enjoys it. We usually split up so he can do his own thing. He’s a musician so heads straight to the music shop to ogle guitars and amps. Then we meet up, tying it in with a meal, the cinema, or the pub.

I love trying things on. There’s no other way to know if you suit something and, of course, if it fits correctly. I’m not a lover of ordering lots on-line and having to return it all when it looks horrendous.

I am wondering if the whole, carefree spirit that comes with browsing around a store will disappear for a while – until things improve– I suppose time will tell.

The dress I am wearing, in this post, I bought in the Norwich branch of H & M, last August, whilst visiting my son, who was working down there, at the time. It was reduced from £45.00 to £20.00. This dress has superb “pull on and go” properties. It works just as well, here, as on “the Med”.

We were invited to a garden party, last August, and it just happened to be the hottest day of the year. This dress was perfect for the occasion as it has a lovely cheesecloth, natural fabric. It kept me cool throughout. As it was late summer, I had a tan, so I didn’t look too pasty. This is also perfect for the beach to throw over your bathing attire

    • With my usual routine being completely different I’m really appreciating things I was too busy to notice before our world changed, nature in particular. This is my favourite time of year.xx

  2. What a beautiful day! Your dress is so lovely on you! I love easy breezy dresses and sundresses especially for summer.
I know what you mean about dressing up during this Crisis. I spent about a month or so in robes, loungewear, but try and get dressed in regular clothes several days a week to feel better.

    • I so agree with you Jess. I have been pushing myself to get properly dressed a few times a week, but it’s difficult to find the incentive sometimes. It certainly makes me feel better though.xx

  3. I am absolutely all about the maxi dresses right now! Still hanging around at home but wanting to get more dressed than at the beginning of lockdown. Your dress is so pretty. I love the fit and the subtle stripes. And that quote is so perfect. I need to get out into nature more myself. It really is quite healing! Thanks for linking up, my friend.

    • I do love lightweight maxi dresses when the weather is behaving – at the moment it’s reverted to cold and miserable.☹️I’m getting properly dressed more too – it does make you feel good. We are coming out of lockdown very slowly here, as our government is frightened we hit a second wave – so I think I’ll be seeing my Swan family for a little while longer. xx

  4. I love everything flowy, especially in the summer months, easy to wear and cool. The suns disappeared, hopefully it’ll be back soon. xx

  6. I agree that the browsing will be gone for a while. They want you to come in, pick, and buy. Probably one first has to browse the web to know what’s out there. Then decide what you will look for. Best print it out. Go into a store, ask for something like that. Get a Yes or no. If you like what they have in that style, buy and go.
